I am a parent to three lovely children. I have a son in Year 6, and two daughters, one in Year 4, the other in Year 3. Being a parent is one of the biggest challenges I have faced. Nutrition, Obesity and Academic Achievement
There is an expression in English, 'You are what you eat.' In other words, if you eat healthily, you will be healthy. This is especially true for our children. Ms Alison, who recently completed a Masters Degree in 'Food and Nutrition', shared her expertise at a coffee morning on Wednesday 16th January. The slides from her presentation are below. I find that when I talk to my children about food, if I have the backing of one of their teachers, the message is a lot stronger. Please use the presentation below to help your child understand the importance of a healthy diet and to be aware of what is is the food and drink they consume.
Are you attending to your child's social and emotional needs?
I find that during the school term, evenings are very busy with music practice, homework and the daily routine. The holidays provide an opportunity to focus more on your child's social and emotional needs. Research by Professor Maurice Elias shows that the best way to do this is to take time to read to them at bedtime; English, Korean, Vietnamese, it does not matter.

At the same time, you should know that there is a lot of conflicting opinion out there about which method of parenting is the best, and this can certainly result in some confusion for parents looking for good parenting guides. Well, one thing that can be helpful is to spend as much time as you feel you need to read a few reviews about specific parenting guides and which ones are generally considered to be the best.
