Phonics Workshop

The work that takes place in the Early Years Foundation Stage  is so important for any child.  At the BIS, we follow the Framework for EYFS which highlights 3 'Prime Areas'; Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.  In addition to these, there are 4 more specific areas; Literacy (English), Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Art and Design.  All the activities that take place in EYFS are designed to provide children experiences in these seven areas for learning and development.
Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning as Ms Helen led a Phonics workshop which focused on the Literacy area of the framework.  A lot of work has been done to find out the stages of learning when children learn to speak, then to read and then ultimately to write. Ms Helen explained these stages, demonstrated ways in which parents can help their child to develop phonological (the knowledge of sounds) awareness, before providing opportunities to ask questions and look at some of the resources we use to teach this aspect of the EYFS Framework.
