Making Music in Y5

We are very fortunate to have Ms Natasha, our specialist music teacher, at TX.  She has a great deal of experience and expertise which ensures that our children are taught to a high level.  As I was passing today, I heard a variety of sounds and instruments coming from her room.  As I entered I could see that the Year 5 children were busy composing their own variation of 'What shall we do with the drunken sailor'.
Our music curriculum is broken down into 3 key areas:
1) Music appreciation - listening to songs and music of many different genres; classical, pop, folk, etc.
2) Composition - writing music and songs using different styles of notation
3) Performance - this includes performing their own pieces as well as singing.
The Year 5s today were just in the initial stages of composing, so I look forward to going back in a few weeks time to listen to their final pieces.
