Lantern making and pottery are two of the crafts that made Hoi An the historical trading centre that it was. Our first stop was at the lantern factory. After a walk, past the peanuts and corn growing in the fields, the children arranged themselves into groups to make their lanterns. Each group had a member of staff from the factory working with them, showing them how the lanterns have been made for hundreds of years. Ms Linh, the owner of the factory, then told us about the history of lantern making in Hoi An.
A short journey took us to the pottery village. Located on the banks of the Thu Bon river, the pottery village has a plentiful supply of clay, taken from the bed of the river. Here the children were shown how to make their own small clay models, similar to the ones on sale on every street corner in Hoi An town.
On our way back to the hotel, we stopped for lunch at the Hoi An Garden Restaurant.
