When I saw several members of Year 2 heading on to the playground at 8.20 a.m., I explained they should be in their classroom at this time. They told me they were learning about the long 'e' sound.
What I then saw was a lesson which enabled the kin-aesthetic learners to engage with an activity and reinforce phonetic patterns. As I've mentioned before, different individuals learn in different ways; some learn best by listening (although this is the minority of children and adults), others prefer seeing what they are learning, and in this activity today, as the children moved to the different letter patterns ('ee', 'ea' and 'y') they thought about the correct one.
At TX, all the teachers work hard to ensure that activities are matched to the different groups of children in their class.
