What a great first day for the Year 5s! Having recovered from the surprise of Jonathan's dad, Grant (Captain Baker) flying the plane, we all collected our luggage without a hitch and were met by Tintin and Thang our guides from Phat Tire Adventures. We ate our packed lunches on the bus on the way to our first activity; making toys at the clay village. Everyone had a go at making a turtle or a buffalo but Yoo Mins T-Rex was probably the most adventurous caly model. After a brief walk by the river, pausing only for a group photo by a small temple, we boarded the bus and headed to the lantern factory. We were all amazed at how easy the local workers made the process of making a lantern look.
It was then time to head to the Vinh Hung Riverside Resort. Ms Kris and Ms Vy, who visited before two years ago, tell me that it has had some work done since the Year 5s last stayed. It really is a wonderful base for our trip. It was an easy walk into town to 'Tam Tam' where we all had a wonderful dinner.
I type this sitting outside my room with the twinkling of the lights reflecting off the pool disturbed only by a gentle breeze rippling the water, and the nocturnal sound of frogs and crickets only being interrupted by the chug of the fishing boats heading off towards the sea. The children have had a long and tiring, but fabulous first day and we look forward to the challenges tomorrow will bring at...Marble Mountain!
Have fun guys!!!
