Growing Up Digital - Robyn Treyvaud

It was great to see so many parents at this morning's coffee morning about 'Growing Up Digital'. Robyn Treyvaud is an expert in the whole field of helping children to become responsible and respectful members of the Internet community.
Robyn presented us with many resources that would help educate our children in this area.  In the next few weeks, we are going to create a website with links to all the materials Robyn referred to, but now I want to focus on two things:

1) Crossing The Line - we watched a video called 'Where are you?' Our children need boundaries whether in the real world or online.  We need to talk to our children about where that boundary lies; what is okay to do online and what is not okay, and what to do if the line is crossed.  Robyn emphasised the importance of discussing these issues with our children.  She used another analogy of a swimming pool.  We can put fences around a pool to try and protect our children, but the best thing to do is to teach them to swim. We need to teach our children to be responsible users of the Internet.
2) Family Media Agreement - Robyn shared 3 documents that can be found here:
Family Media Agreement K-5 (Years 1-6)
Family Media Agreement 6-8 (Year 7-9)
Family Media Agreement High School (Years 10-13)
These agreements are for you to share with your children and will help you to agree on where 'The Line' is.
