Talking in F3

At TX we are always looking to improve, and one way we do this is by sharing ideas and good practice with one another.  This week we are having a 'Learning Walk' where teachers go into other teachers classrooms to watch somebody else teach.  We always have a particular focus and this week we are looking at writing.  Aspects of excellent practice and good ideas are all recorded and then shared with the whole staff.
Today I went to see Ms Chloe teaching in F3.  At this early stage, mark making is beginning to develop into writing, but a more appropriate focus is talking.  Learning to speak well provides the foundation for developing reading and writing.
I saw a wonderful lesson, where the children were confidently speaking about medical equipment such as stethoscope and otoscope. Although not the most essential vocabulary, the children loved putting them into sentences such as, 'I am holding a stethoscope' and 'I can hear my heart beating.'
