Each Tuesday, after school, we have a staff meeting. These may involve training in a particular area, planning events or evaluating children's work. This Tuesday was different as all the teachers left school at 2.40pm and headed towards the Thu Duc district. We were met there by the teachers and children of Binh Trieu School and spent time playing with the children and sharing resources with the teachers.
Community service is very important at BIS and the opportunities for staff to get involved are just as important as the children. Individuals respond differently to these individuals; this is also the same for adults and children. As Ms Heather pointed out at the recent Community Coffee Morning, some feel trapped like 'prisoners', others will simply follow direction from others, 'vacationers', others will take a lead and initiate activities with the children - 'changemakers'. The more we get involved with the community projects, the more confident we become enabling us to help make changes for the better.
