Ready for Blast Off with Year 5

At the BIS, we teach the foundation subjects through a themed approach. That means we do not have separate history or geography lessons, but learn through topics with elements of those subjects, as well as art, design technology; where we can, we make links to science, English and Maths.  To ensure we cover the full National Curriculum in these subjects, we use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), which has the added benefit of introducing an international dimension to each of the subjects covered.
Each topic begins with an 'Entry Point'.  Today, 4T went to AP1 to begin there topic on 'Adventures and Explorers' with some of their classes.  This afternoon, Year 1 children were busy trying to find pieces to a puzzle that turned out to be a photo of me; there topic is 'All About Me'. We also invite guests to help us begin our topics, and this morning Mr Henry and Mr Terry from AP2's Science Department came with some rockets to get the Year 5 topic, 'Space' off with a bang...and what a loud bang it was!
