The Benefits of Learning a Musical Instrument

The children sat mesmerised this morning in assembly as first Mr Minh and then Yu Gyeong entertained us with performances on the cello.  My three children are all learning to play musical instruments (the flute, the clarinet and the cello), and as a parent I take great pleasure from listening to them perform.
However, pleasure is only one by-product of music lessons.  Research carried out by brain scientists has proven that learning to play a musical instrument is one of the most beneficial things you can do aide brain development, especially in children.
Some of you may be familiar with TED talks and videos.  Below is a link to a short video that explains how playing an instrument benefits your brain.

If you would like your child to have music lessons, there are many instruments to choose from, including cello, clarinet and saxophone.  Please contact Mr Robbie for more information.
