We have had a very busy and eventful half term and as enter the last week before the Tet holiday, our teachers are busy completing their assessments. I want to take this opportunity to again remind everyone of the difference between assessments and tests.
When I was 17 years of age, I took my driving test. I was very keen to get my hands on the wheel of my father's new Vauxhall Cavalier CDi. I knew the outcome would be either a pass or a fail. If I had learnt enough about the rules of driving and practised the skills of driving to high enough level, I would pass and be off around the country lanes. If I didn't, I would fail and would have to wait another three months before I could take the test again.
When my children were born, my wife regularly took them to be assessed at the post natal clinic. In this instance, the children were weighed, measured and other health checks were carried out. The results of these assessments were recorded in a little red book, so the midwife, and my wife and I could see the development of our baby.
This week at TX, the children are being assessed in reading, writing, maths and science. There is no pass or fail. The results of these assessments will be recorded so that the teachers, Mile Post leaders and Ms Sue and I can monitor the children's academic development. This will enable us, as a school, to provide a more personalised education to each and every child.
