
There was a penguin in our assembly this morning. There are not usually penguins in assembly, but this was not a usual assembly. Our guest at TX this morning was Henry Evans. Earlier this year, Henry with his friend Geoff, trekked across Antarctica in the footsteps of Captain Robert Falcon Scott, 100 years earlier.
Henry explained to the children how he needed to train hard for the expedition and make sure he was very well prepared. We watched a video showing how he needed to 'shower' in the snow to get clean and eat special food to get the energy he needed to complete his task.
The children in Year 4 are beginning their IPC topic 'Adventurers and Explorers' and after assembly, Henry went into the Year 4 classes to show some of the equipment he took with him and to talk more about his experiences.
