Over 700 studies have been carried out looking into parental involvement in children's learning and the evidence is clear. Reading to children has a positive impact, parents listening to their children read has a bigger impact, but the impact of parents being actively involved in their child's learning is huge. Professor John Hattie, who is now based at Melbourne University in Australia, has tried to quantify this impact and has concluded that parents who know how to support their children and actively teach them specific literacy based skills has the effect of increasing the child's rate of learning by around 50%.
Do you know how best to support your child when it comes to Phonic Development and Reading? We have two parent coffee mornings coming up where our teachers will be explaining the best way to give your child that boost at home.
Please join us in the Multi-purpose Room at 8.00am on Wednesday 9th October when Ms Chloe will be looking at Phonic Development, and on Wednesday 16th October when Ms Louise and Ms Emma, will be explaining the most effective strategies for Supporting Reading.
