The Oscars, the BAFTAs, Sports Personality of the Year, the Grammys, the Golden Globes - unmissable events in the world's social calendar, in recent years have had a rival to being the most unmissable night of the year. Of course, I am speaking of the Milepost 3 Speech Competition. On Tuesday evening, a packed sports hall listened to 10 well thought out, highly polished performances. The topics ranged from endangered species to why it is good to make mistakes. The speeches were impassioned and the delivery would have made Martin Luther King or Winston Churchill proud.
Mr Damian Ballantine from AP2, Matt Underwood (PR guru), Ms Emma and Mr Richard had the unenviable task of judging the winner. Third place went to Rose who shared her dream of becoming an author, and runner-up was Angel, whose original 'Three Wishes' speech addressed the green agenda. A popular choice with the audience for winner, Nicholas' speech on the benefits of eating chocolate in moderation, was well planned, well executed and contained more than a dash of humour.
Well done to all who were involved; the children for their efforts in producing quality speeches, and the Milepost 3 and EAL teams for organising another wonderful event. See below for the top 3 speeches.
